Not Just a Prophet, Not Just a Teacher: Who Is Jesus, Really?

From prophets to calendars to global holidays, Jesus shows up everywhere. But who is He really? This blog explores the clues and invites you to look a little closer.

Ever noticed how Jesus seems to show up everywhere?

He’s in religious texts, history books, street art, tattoos, Netflix documentaries. Even in conversations from people who don’t actually follow Him. Whether you believe in Him or not, there’s no denying He’s everywhere.

But who is Jesus, really?

A Name Known Around the World

What’s wild is that Jesus isn’t just central to Christianity. You’ll find Him mentioned in:

  • Islam, where He’s honoured as a prophet, born of a virgin, performing miracles, and even returning at the end of time.
  • Hindu and Buddhist writings, where His teachings are often respected as deeply spiritual.
  • Secular history, where scholars acknowledge His life and death without question.

That’s not normal. No one else appears like this across cultures and belief systems. Not Buddha. Not Muhammad. Not Moses. So what makes Jesus different?

Time Is Literally Marked by His Life

We split our years into B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini – “in the year of our Lord”). Even in academic spaces where the terms have shifted to BCE and CE, the dividing line still remains the same: the birth of Jesus.

You could try to explain it away, sure. But it’s hard to ignore the fact that the world measures time based on one man’s arrival. You can view a full interactive timeline of the start of history here.

Who Is Jesus, Really? Why He’s More Than a Prophet or Teacher

Even Our Holidays Whisper His Name

We throw parties for His birth (Christmas) and remember His death and resurrection (Easter), even if most of us don’t connect the dots anymore.

Even if you’ve never been to church, chances are you’ve:

  • Sung a carol
  • Shared an Easter egg
  • Or posted a nativity emoji on your story

He’s in the background of everything. Quietly. Persistently.

Every Religion Wants to Claim Him. But Jesus Made a Claim Too

People call Jesus a good teacher.
Some say He was a prophet.
Others try to reduce Him to a spiritual leader or moral example.

But He didn’t really give us that option.

He said things no ordinary teacher would say. Things like:

“I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30)
“Before Abraham was, I AM.” (John 8:58)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)

That’s not the language of someone simply offering good advice. It’s the language of someone claiming to be God in human form.

So… Who Do You Say He Is?

Maybe you’ve heard the stories. Maybe you’ve never heard of Him.
Maybe you’ve brushed it all off as old-school religion. Maybe you just don’t like Him.
Maybe you’ve been hurt by church people, so you stepped back.

But still… Jesus keeps showing up.

In your feed.
In conversations.
In history.
In the ache for something more.

So if nearly every culture talks about Him…
If time literally turns on His birth…
If love, redemption, and eternity seem to trace back to Him…

Could He be more than just a man?

And if everything points to Jesus being real…Does that change things for you?
Does that make you want to get to know Him for yourself?
